Dear colleagues,

As a longtime resident of the city on a hill, I am thrilled to welcome you to Boston for the American Academy of Periodontology’s (AAP’s) 103rd

Annual Meeting. This meeting’s theme, Navigating the

Future of Periodontology, is more than a slogan. It is an intention the Academy has set for your Annual Meeting experience. As the tide continues to change on the periodontal specialty, this meeting will equip you with the knowledge and skills to steer your career in the direction of success.

Each year, the AAP strives to innovate its Annual Meeting by developing compelling content and identifying learning formats that meet the needs of a diverse cohort of attendees. In doing so, we create an environment of inclusion and community. This year, you’ll find a docket of Hands-On Workshops, seminars, and symposiums created to challenge and inspire you. Speaking of inspiration, the AAP is particularly excited to welcome New York Times bestselling author Alison Levine, whose climbing expeditions to Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Everest will motivate you to ascend the heights of your own work. Hear from Alison during the Opening General Session on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Whether you are a seasoned practitioner, a vital part of a periodontal office staff, or just starting out in periodontics, there’s a course to suit your curiosities. Back by popular demand is the interactive Dental Hygiene Symposium, which takes a hygienist’s perspective to such topics as implant maintenance and endoscopic periodontal debridement. In addition to the Student/New Periodontist Series (a curation of courses designed to jumpstart new careers in periodontics), the Academy will host its first Periodontal Career Fair for those seeking a new position and those seeking new associates. The new Perio Park will serve as a key Exhibit Hall destination offering networking opportunities, refreshments, and insightful conversations.

The Annual Meeting provides plenty of opportunities to go where everybody knows your name. Catch up with your former classmates at an alumni reception or mingle with long-distance colleagues at the Welcome Reception, held Sunday, Sept. 10. For those who live or practice outside of the U.S., the International Reception on Saturday, Sept. 9 allows the chance to visit with colleagues from around the globe. Also, don’t miss the chance to visit more than 350 exhibit booths in the Exhibit Hall during your visit.

Bustling with rich history, Boston is the perfect place for cultural and intellectual exploration. A short walk from the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center is the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum, a floating gallery of artifacts. History buffs can also enjoy the Freedom Trail (a walking tour of historic landmarks), and foodies can have a good bowl of clam chowder or an authentic lobster roll at one of the many great Beantown restaurants.

What else is new this year? More than 20 new speakers, a host of fresh periodontal topics, and VIP registration. Register today at perio.org. On behalf of AAP leadership, we look forward to seeing you in Boston.
