PEPPER CULTURE
Seed will not germinate in cool soil. Start indoors in flats 8-10 weeks prior to last frost date. Plant seed ½" deep, 1" apart in flats when starting. Allow 2-4 weeks for germination. Transplant when plants are 1½" tall. Transplant into the garden when night temperature is over 50°F. Place a couple matches in the hole as peppers like a slightly acidic soil. Space plants 2' apart in rows 3' apart. Maturity dates are from the time of transplanting. Packets contain 25 seeds unless otherwise stated. Some varieties are also available as starter plants, see page 29.
