HORSERADISH, KALE & STARTER PLANTS HORSERADISH CULTURE Green Magic Horseradish


Horseradish will be ready to harvest after one year in your garden. Does best in cool, moist, fertile soil. Plant roots, with the thick end up (upright or horizontal), outdoors in the spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Place roots 18" apart. Horseradish is a perennial, but many gardeners replant every 3-5 years, as old roots tend to get woody.

Dwarf Blue Curled Scotch


Sow in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked or in mid-summer. Plant seed ¼" deep, 4" apart in rows 1½' apart, or in wide-row beds or circular islands. Allow 1-2 weeks for germination. Thin to 1-2' apart. Kale is very hardy and withstands frost well, which serves to enhance its flavor.


Black Magic


45-60 Day. Tis popular variety out of Italy is sometimes referred to as ‘Dinosaur Kale’ because of its unique leaf texture. Te deep green leaves


grow up to 3" wide and 10" long, and are perfect for soups and stews, or lend themselves nicely to salads when they are picked young. Te flavor is mild and sweet, and becomes even sweeter after a frost. Tis plant is slow to bolt and exhib- its excellent cold tolerance.
