Thewater companies can have full online visibility of every activity by licensed contractors using the App on every hydrant on their network and in real time through a designated portal.
Theywould also be able to identifywhich hydrants are notworking, monitor the performance of licensed contractors, and help identify those thatmay need further assistance such as retraining in standpipe operation, avoiding disruption to local residents from filling operations, aswell as identifying hydrants that can only be usedwith 22/25mm standpipes and thosewith 40mmor 60mm.
NADC has also been in discussionwith Aquam Water Services, whomanage the standpipe hire arrangements for 15 of thewater companies. Whilst noting its uniqueness they also see howthe App supports and provides confirmation for their own remotemeter readings aswell as identifying to users and water companies any stopped standpipe meters.
PhilWalker, CEO at AquamWater Services commented:
‘Use of the App has seen a reduction in damage to hired standpipes –which has a clear benefit to contractors in reduced charges. The App can protect contactors from claims for damages fromthewater companies, as it provides photographic evidence of hydrant condition pre and post use.’
The finalword goes to JulianWynn,FM ConwayWater DrainageManagement and TrafficManagement Director:
‘FMConway has nowundertaken over three thousand abstractions using this App and is nowbusiness as usual across theWater and DrainageManagement division This has resulted in a clear behaviour change in the approach of operators using hydrants and the Hydrant App,withmany saying howhelpful they have found the App in their day-to-day operations. It has also eliminated the use of paper-based records formonthly reconciling ofwater extracted.’
