It has been over 40 years since the first pipeline CIPP (Cured-In-Place-Pipe) renovation lining systemswere introduced to themarket.During that time there have been various incarnations of the technology fromhotwater cured through ambient cure to steamand hot air assisted ambient cure.


As early as 1978, into thismix also came light curingwith UV (Ultra Violet) light being used to cure the liner. In 1984, Borje Persson (nowwith BKP Berolina) joined Swedish company Jonasson as Technology Development Engineer, a year later he carried out the first installation, 45mof

DN150 in 1985. This company soon became part of the company known as InPipe.


UndergroundMagazine reported in April 1986 that inWellingborough, UK, Dr JohnMurray reported development of a newUV curing systemto replace hotwater curewhere submersible lightswere drawn through the liner impregnatedwith the appropriate catalysts that had the benefit that they could cure resin faster than steamand hotwater.With a substantial R&D teamand budget Insituformpressed aheadwith its demonstrations and projects.

Over time othermanufacturers entered the marketwith, for example, in 1997 BKP Berolina producing UV light-curing and glass fibre reinforced liners. In the same year, Brandenburger GmbH established UV Reline.tec GmbH & Co. and expanded the company’s activities to include the development and manufacture of innovative,worldwide patented UVA light curing systems and equipment.
