A worthy leak seeking Water Dragon Winner


Monday sawthe culmination of Future Water's 2020WaterDragons competition with five companies showcasing theirwater innovations in the grand final. Like the majority of the 2020WaterDragon heats, the final took place online andwas attended by a great variety of sector professionals, keen to discovermore about the exciting innovations emerging at this challenging time.


As usual the format of the competition required each company to present theirwater focussed innovation during an eightminute pitch, inwhich they identified themarket need and industry challenges that their entry addressed. Each presenter then faced questioning fromthe sevenwater industry judges about the key characteristics and benefits of their service or product. The innovations pitched to theWater Dragon judges ranged fromvirtualwater audit solutions to stabilising and enriching soilwith the use of polymers. Despite the high standard of all five entries, there could be only one winner, and on this occasion thatwinnerwas Qinov8with their innovative solution to


finding and repairing leaks in pipes, the AQUAPEA®. Commenting on thewinner, AlastairMoseley, Water Dragon Judge Chair & FutureWater BoardMember said: “Water Dragons continues to drive connections, innovations and engagement around newideas, across thewater sector. This finalwas no exception and itwas fantastic to see the different thinking fromthe presenters who brought a great diversity of solutions to the judges.” In response to being chosen as the 2020Water Dragonswinner,Michael Quinn, Co-Founder of Qinov8 said: “We are extremely proud to receive validation and recognition that AQUAPEA® is effective at reducing leakage and could be scaled as a global solution. TheWater Dragons competition provides great opportunities for innovative technologies like AQUAPEA® to display their game-changing ideas. Innovation is the key to success in all industries and judging by all of the entries this year thewater industry is in good hands.


Winning theWater Dragons Award and now working alongside FutureWater,will hopefully help us showcase the importance of including AQUAPEA® in everywater engineer's toolbox, as a first response solution to leakage.” Paul Horton, CEO of FutureWater added: “FutureWater is focussed on shaping the future ofwater through collaboration, innovation and education.Water Dragons is an opportunity to bring the creativity of the supply chain to the fore and this finalwas a fantastic example of companies rising to the challenge.” Whilst the judges decided on thewinner, event attendees listened to a panel discussion on the theme of 'Driving change across thewater community'. Taking part in the panel were Nicky Cunningham,Manager at the Centre for Resilience in the Environment,Water andWaste, University of Exeter, Harry Armstrong, Director, Regulatory Policy at OFWAT, Laura Conroy, Innovation Programme Manager at United Utilities and Harry Armstrong, HR Business Partner, Innovation Teamat Severn Trent.
