if operating in areas they are not familiarwith.
To ensure everywater company’s standpipe requirements can bemet, the App allows users to select a specificwater company area, so only thatwater company’s authorised hydrants can be accessed.
Through an easy to use administration portal individual hydrants can be removed fromthe app to ensure out of action hydrants are not being used until they areworking again.
To ensure that operatives can access the hydrant datawhenworking in areaswith no signal, the App stores the hydrant data. This allows access to the hydrant datawhen there is no internet coverage. All the extraction information and photographic evidence can still be logged. As soon as the operativemoves into an areawithmobile phone coverage all the information is sync’d back to the cloud.
All hydrant and extraction data contains Latitude and Longitude coordinates, with that level of accuracy it removes the risk of using postcodes. There can bemultiple hydrants in the same street and inmore rural areas, where the postcodes can cover awider area, the designated hydrant can be easily foundwith the App.
Matt Coombes FMConway drainage operative commented ‘EviFile has had a hugely positive impact on us as crews. It has created shortages in downtime, where before using the appwe were only aware of a fewapproved hydrants,we are nowable to access our closest approved hydrant at the touch of a button andwithin seconds. The app is simple and easy to use, only having to input pre and postmeter readings,

standpipe serial number and capturing a few pictures. We as a creware extremely grateful for this app and not having to create extra workloads for ourselves bywriting it all down on paper!’
REAL TIME CAPTUREOFHYDRANTUSE
Froma desktop perspective, the systemis live and data uploads are completedwithin a few seconds if the App is usedwithin a GPS and 4G covered area. If not, the Appwill store the information and automatically uploadwhen coverage is in place.
The information is clear as can be seen fromthe screenshots and includes the photographic evidence of correctly using the standpipe on the hydrant. The operative adds the serial number of the standpipe they are using, demonstrating full compliancewith licencing fromthewater company.
Themeter readings are then added for both pre and post usage, demonstrating the amount of water extracted. This allows easymonthly reconciliation ofwater used, back at the office, without resorting to paper records plus identification of any stoppedmeters. This can then be easily tracked back towhen itwas last
reading correctly.
The data set held on the App Portal holds the gps location, including time and date, to ensure the contractor can showwhen they operated the hydrant, should there be any issueswith the network that thewater companymay need to investigate. This allows thosewith the appropriate licencing and using the App to showtheywere not operating the hydrant when andwhere any issue occurred.
NEWHYDRANT CAPTURE
Should there be an areawhere there appears to be a potential hydrant to use but has not yet been designated, the App has a process to capture the details of type, location, and photographs showing access and thewater company ownership. Using the data provided by the App thewater company canmore easily decide to approve its usage or not. This is particularly helpful for temporary hydrant use for specific projects orwhere a fire hydrant is temporarily allocatedwhen no designated or suitable authorised hydrant is available in the area.
This can be used during pre-site checks to help identify if additional arrangements forwater
