FdSc Psychological Studies

Psychology is the study of people; how they think, act, react and interact. Psychology is concerned with all aspects of behaviour and the thoughts, feelings and motivation underlying such behaviour.
The course will allow you the opportunity of studying Psychology in depth. Over the course of two years, you will become adept at carrying out and analysing research, acquire a good level of knowledge of the key areas of Psychology and the ability and skills to work at this level of education.
You will study a wide range of modules, including Cognitive & Biological Psychology, which allows you to interpret findings from studies to enhance your understanding of the brain and nervous system, and Individual Differences, where the theories of personality and intelligence are critically considered.
Progression
Successful students may be able to progress to Plymouth University1
to the BSc (Hons) Psychological Studies top- up (please note that this route is subject to the passing of a bridging module), BSc (Hons) Psychology, or the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Sociology Level 5 (if the Psychology and Sociology pathway was taken during the FdSc). The areas of health and social care, teaching and education, customer service and human resource management are careers which are particularly relevant to this course.

FdSc Public Services
Foundation Degree Awarding Body: Plymouth University
Public services are key to our society and, thus, it is vital that employees within the sector are able to deliver the services efficiently and effectively. This course will provide you with skills in teamwork, management and the application of law and policy in an ever-changing environment.
Using the unique challenges of the landscape in North Devon, this course offers opportunities to learn outside the classroom and in real-world scenarios. You will engage with local services on a regular basis.
You will undertake six modules per year, including Principles of Law, Inclusive and Diverse Practice, Management & Leadership Skills and Outdoor Education.
You are given a strong core of knowledge of the application of law and policy, which will ensure a deeper understanding of the management skills required in public services. You will also have the opportunity to specialise in areas by selecting topics of interest, furthering links to your professional development. Engaging lectures, collaborative and independent study, outdoor activities, trips and events with Plymouth University, and guest speakers provide you with a uniquely supportive and challenging learning environment.
Progression
For the FdSc Public Services, students are eligible to progress to a number of top-up awards1
, with the eventual
qualification awarded being either a BSc (Hons) Public Services (Policing), or BA (Hons) Human Resource Management. This decision is made during completion of Level 5 modules and the range of choices available depends on where a student wants to base their study. Subsequent study opportunities may include post-graduate study at Masters Level.
