Do you have a drive to make things work? If so, this course is for you. The modules that make up the course are designed to be challenging and to establish a knowledge base suitable for a career in technology.
It has been identified that development skills at this level are key to impacting on a company’s bottom line. This would ideally suit people who wish to work, or who are already working, as technicians in mechanical design, manufacturing or associated industries. You must be open-minded when analysing the modules of this course.
The course has a common core of analytical methods, organisational behaviour, CAD, and project work. The mechanical design and manufacturing pathway includes materials science, manufacturing technology, engineering science, instrumentation and control, design processes and manufacturing systems.
Progression
Upon successful completion, students may be able to progress to Plymouth University onto the BSc (Hons) Mechanical Design and Manufacture degree1. Incorporated Engineers often work alongside Chartered Engineers on technological innovation; with a combination of higher qualifications and work experience, this can lead learners to Chartered Engineer status.

FdA Music Performance
Foundation Degree Awarding Body: Plymouth University
This exciting and dynamic course will develop your practical skills and knowledge as a musician. You will be taught to enhance and support these skills in a broader context such as organising, managing, recording, presenting your own music and marketing it using varied methods.
You will study a wide range of modules, including Recording Techniques, Music Business and Composition & Arrangement.
This course is based in our 800-capacity live music and arts venue, The Factory, which is extremely well resourced with individual workstations for every student and state-of- the-art recording studios.
We work with current model Apple iMacs with industry standard recording and sequencing software, and other sound creation software packages. The main recording studio features a top-of-the-range digital desk, Pro Tools HD recording on iMac and a comprehensive set of quality outboard facilities. There is another Pro Tools suite at the North Devon Campus. Software includes Pro Tools, Logic 9, Reaktor and Final Cut.
Progression
Students who successfully pass their Foundation Degree may be able progress to Stage 3 of BA (Hons) Music, or BA (Hons) Music Technology at Plymouth University1 must do this within three years.
