in Science Diploma


The sole aim of the Access course is to open doors to study for applicants who do not have the specific A Level qualifications needed to enter a degree programme. This course paves the way to a Foundation Degree or full Honours Degree at Petroc, awarded by Plymouth University, or to a degree programme at any UK university.


This Diploma provides a pathway onto a variety of Higher Education degree courses to pursue a career in science- based professions. On the Science Diploma, you will study a range of scientific based topics; your classes will be engaging and enable you to be involved and assessed by a range of methods including presentations, essays, reports, case studies, short answer tasks and practical lab work.


Depending on which modules you choose, you can expect to study subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Sociology and you will learn through individual practical work, small group exercises, online research, group presentations, whole-class teaching and peer assessment.


You will be supported and encouraged to develop and practise the skills that will enable you to become an independent learner and fully prepare you for Higher Education. Students compile a portfolio of assessed work, which is externally moderated at the end of the course.


Progression


This course is a Level 3 programme which enables you to apply to a variety of science-based degree courses, or Foundation Degrees or full Honours Degrees at Petroc, awarded by Plymouth University. This Diploma leads to a wealth of science-based careers and degree courses in, for example, Human Biosciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Forensics, Conservation Biology & Ecology, Zoology, Veterinary Science, Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic Science, Podiatry, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Nutrition, Psychology and Computer Science.

Access to Higher Education in Teaching –


Humanities Route Diploma


It is never too late to study for a degree even if you have no qualifications at all. Or you may already have some qualifications at GCSE, NVQ or BTEC but not enough to get into university. Many adults return to education to improve their career opportunities and achieve their personal goals.


To succeed, you’ll need to be aged 19 or over, motivated, enthusiastic, able to manage your time effectively and be ready to study. You will be part of a group of adult students who are excited about learning and are willing to work hard with other members of the group and participate.


This course is a Level 3 programme which enables you to progress on to a Foundation Degree or full Honours Degree at Petroc, awarded by Plymouth University, or to a BEd, BA or BSc programme at any UK university. The Access to HE Diploma in Teaching is aimed at those who are interested in teaching in the education sector (Primary or Secondary) or related fields.


The Sociology module of this Diploma is mandatory and you will also need to choose two other subjects to study throughout the year from the following: History, Literary Studies or Psychology.


Progression


This Access to HE Teaching Diploma course is aimed at those who are interested in pursuing a teaching career. You will follow a Humanities-based route with subjects such as Literature, History and Psychology. Your classes will be engaging and enable you to be involved and assessed by a range of methods including presentations, essays, reports, case studies, debates and short in-class exams. This Diploma leads to degree courses in teaching as well as other degrees, for example, English, Journalism, History, Sociology, Psychology and Educational Psychology.
