Foundation Degree Awarding Body: Plymouth University


Digital Technology combines modules from computing and electronics. The course has been tailored for those who would like to develop their knowledge and skills at a higher level in this key area of computing software, hardware and networking. You will be able to work in both electronics and computing upon completion of this course.


From the key fundamentals of the hardware through to the higher skills of programming, the course has been designed to be both challenging and enjoyable. The combination of modules that make up your course have been carefully drafted. The key principles of both hardware and software are covered in Level 4 and taken to a higher level within specific specialisms in Level 5. This course builds module by module to a complete package, which we feel is right for those either entering this field of study or wishing to develop their career in this dynamic area.


Assessment is through a combination of assignments, in course assessments and end of module examinations. The majority of your project module is industry based and has been acknowledged as exceptional by both academics and industry.


Progression


Upon successful completion, the normal progression route for students will be the BSc (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Plymouth University1


. As the

FdA Early Childhood Studies


Foundation Degree Awarding Body: Plymouth University


The course offers a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of children’s development and the provision of innovative practice to support learning. This well-established and successful FdA was updated in 2016 to offer the most contemporary and current perspective on Early Childhood Studies, making it a perfect choice to develop your skills and further a career in early education and care.


Throughout the course you will study a wide range of modules, including Young Children’s Welfare and Wellbeing, International Education Perspectives, Theories of Learning and Development and Multi-agency Working.


You are given a strong core of knowledge in psychology, sociology, and the holistic development of children. You will also have the opportunity to specialise in areas by selecting topics of interest, furthering links to your professional development. Engaging lectures, collaborative and independent study, opportunities for trips and events with Plymouth University, and guest speakers provide you with a uniquely supportive and challenging learning environment.


Progression


Upon successful completion, students are eligible to progress to a number of top-up awards1


, with the eventual


qualification awarded being either a BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies, BA (Hons) Education Studies or BA (Hons) Professional Development (Early Childhood Studies). This decision is made during completion of Level 5 modules and the range of choices available depends on the student’s choice of where to base their study at. In addition, the FLECS system of distance learning for Early Childhood Studies top- ups is available via the University.


Subsequent study opportunities may include post-graduate study at Masters Level, or by undertaking a post-graduate training programme such as a PGCE in order to train as a teacher.
