riting Nutrition Authority: Perspectives on Opportunity allowed me to share my thoughts on what makes an authority in nutrition and dietetics. Interviews with successful registered dietitian nutritionists and outside experts and insights gleaned from the literature and scientific publications further illu- minated what it takes to be a trusted authority. While there are many aspects to nutrition authority, I highlighted only a few of the points I believe to be important.

I hope this book accomplishes two goals: to stimulate dis- cussions among you and your colleagues and organizations about what is necessary to be a trusted authority, and to assist you in identifying ways to help the profession remain a respected author- ity in food and nutrition in this environment of challenge and change.
