It is an exciting time to be in our profession. It is a time to open new doors for the profession and be receptive to new ways of doing our jobs. Tese changes require more of us—greater depth of knowledge, collab- oration, and analytical skills and strong advocacy. High standards and attention to detail are among the hallmarks of our profession. Tese traits are valuable assets that have always underpinned our authority and credibility in times of rapid change. Te Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has excellent


resources for learning how to apply technology in various practice settings. Understanding the application of information technol- ogy in your own work setting and consulting with those who have expertise and insight are important steps toward recognizing and seizing opportunities along the new frontier of the nutrition and dietetics profession.


RESEARCH: THE FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE


Any discussion of the future of nutrition and dietetics needs to acknowledge the fundamental role research plays in the profes- sion. Research has formed the backbone of dietetics practice and continues to serve as the foundation for the Academy of Nutri- tion and Dietetics work in professional and consumer education, advocacy, policy making, and strategic collaboration in the public
