Although designed to guide


the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics into the future, the Acad- emy of Nutrition and Dietetics Second Century vision applies to individual RDNs and should be considered and adopted to help identify new ventures and provide a platform for action. Te Nutrition Impact Summit helped create a new vision and mission for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that reflect the profession’s global presence. Tese statements act as guidelines as we chart our future in the profession and strengthen our com- mitment to world health.


Vision: A world where all people thrive through the transfor- mative power of food and nutrition


Mission: Accelerate improvements in global health and well-being through food and nutrition


I decided to look at two paths that should be important to all


RDNs, regardless of where they work: the food system and infor- mation technology. Casting a wide net around the food system and information technology captures opportunities for all RDNs. Research is focused on the personal approach to health care, and government and health care practitioners are recognizing advances that can be made there. First, let’s take a closer look into the food system, which is an area of interest for many professional groups.
