Off shore wholesaler Technotrading nominated for prestigious business award

Technotrading was nominated for the prestigious Rotterdam business award Ondernemersprijs 2016. Unfortunately, the wholesale supplier to off shore and related industries from the Dutch town of Schiedam did not get the prize, which was presented in the Rotterdam WTC on 21 November. It had been a fierce competition and the award went to Kamera Express. The jury was especially interested in the internationalisation of wholesalers.

The present owner of technical wholesaler’s Technotrading, Jeroen van Waveren, purchased the company almost 6 years ago. It had originally been founded in 1976. He drew up an ambitious 5-year plan to further expand the Schiedam company. Already, Van Waveren hauled in the FD Gazellen Award 2015. Enormous warehouses contain a huge range of A-brand equipment for industrial mainte- nance, available from stock. Shipments leave the premises twice daily. Technical support by employees is very important. In addition to A brands, the company supplies its own brand

Tetra, which is sold via consumer websites. Jeroen van Waveren: “Aſt er I had purchased Technotrading, we put a definite stamp on the market. Technical and maritime knowl- edge is combined here and we contribute substantially to ensuring the position of Rotterdam as one of the major Maritime Supply Hubs in the world. We intend to occupy a leading position well into the future, in order to further optimise and modernise this supply infrastructure. That is why we are looking to expand abroad. We will soon be opening up our Spanish subsidiary in the port of Algeciras.”

Den Helder intends to become North Sea Energy Gateway

“Anyone operating in the energy sector on the North Sea cannot get around Den Helder.” In the region of Den Helder, covering the tip of the Dutch province of Noord-Holland, local trade & industry have joined forces with local government bodies in order to create the ultimate off shore port in the North-Sea area.

For decades, oil and gas platforms in the North Sea have been served from the region of Den Helder. The various parties involved have now joined forces and created a single proposition by which to present their services. During the October Off shore Energy exhibition, organised in the Amsterdam Rai, the North Sea Energy Gateway brand was launched.

The concept was initiated by development company Ontwikkelingsbedrijf Noord-Hol- land Noord - an executive organisation of the province and local municipalities. “Early this year, diff erent organisations from the region, including trade & industry, knowledge institutions, the airport and the seaport, got together to find ways to make the most of the opportunities around the region”, Marieke

Off shore-groothandel Technotrading dong mee naar Rotterdamse Ondernemersprijs

Endert, project manager with Ontwikkelings- bedrijf, explained.

In recent years, various stakeholders from the off shore industry in the region of Den Helder had already been discussing the possibilities. “Together with a regional delegation, we attended exhibitions, including WindEnergy in Hamburg and the off shore exhibition in Houston. Thanks to this new brand, allowing us to take a univocal stand in the market, we will be able to occupy an even stronger position”.

Over the coming months, the workgroup that helped create the brand will further develop the website. “It is to become a portal to which the four pillars of the brand - trade & industry, knowledge institutions, airport, and seaport - will all contribute. Existing activities, such as the annual exhibition North Sea Off shore, will also be boosted by North Sea Energy Gateway”.

North Sea Energy Gateway is to present the region internationally as well as nationally. Endert: “During the transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources, we will be able to greatly contribute”.

WERKENDAM MARITIME INDUSTRIES: A RELIABLE PARTNER

One of the most acknowledged clusters of maritime industries can be found in Werkendam, strategically located on the river Merwede, a European main transport corridor. Originally started as a shipbuilding cluster for inland vessels, the ‘Werkendam Maritime Industries’ cluster opened up new horizons and developed services and products for the off shore industry as well.

Semi-submersible vessels, workboats, shallow draſt pushboats and landing craſt s, the Werkendam cluster is able to design and to construct all of them. And more. Also equipment related to crew can be

realised, such as crew supply vessels and stackable accommodation modules, if desired on vessels or pontoons. The Werkendam companies are acknowl- edged for their trustworthiness and problem solving capabilities. Engineers continue to search for solutions. For example, Werkendam companies assisted in the salvage of the Costa Concordia by developing a method to get the unfortunate vessel afloat.
