EevaVG Unique cleanship ecocoaster

Using fish oil as fuel is unique when it comes to sea vessels. This EcoCoaster, which was designed by Royal Bodewes-as requested by the Finnish company VG-Shipping is able to run on it, as well as on gas and electricity. ABC (Anglo Belgian Corporation) from Gent supplied the propulsion engine to match for this ship. The fish oil comes from fish waste, which was boxed up at this ship builders’ refinery. Winning energy from waste is an important aspect to their corporate philo- sophy today. By taking this ship to water it is meeting the current need to build environ- mentally friendly ships. Royal Bodewes is writing history by doing this. For this company it presents a unique opportunity to show it can meet needs which have not been

met before, together with its suppliers. Its basic design was carried out by a Finnish company. Royal Bodewes finished it, together with ‘Groot Schip Design’ (Big Ship Design). Environmentally friendly was the magic word, which had to be kept in mind at all times during the process. VG-Shipping wanted to harm the environment as little as possible. Recycling energy on board was an absolute must in designing it. A ballast water manage- ment system filters out its harmful bacteria. It even considered how to recycle the ship itself in the future. And it comprised in inventory of hazardous materials, which will lead it to an environmentally friendly second run. Until then it will be contributing to a cleaner maritime industry.
