ence before so I’ll have a mental picture of whom I am speaking to.

SP: What do you think is necessary to develop a sense of humor? Wayne Dyer: First, taking a less serious view of life. Humor comes from the inside out. And don’t be afraid of failure – instead, welcome it. It’s the failures in life that are funny – I mean, look at Woody Allen. The guy who is funny is the guy who doesn’t get the girl but makes us laugh at all the antics he uses in trying. Under- stand that, in every single obstacle in life, there is a blessing or a gift. Try to see that opportunity for what it is.

SP: In your view what makes the world go around – what’s the force that binds everything together? Wayne Dyer: Cooperation. It is the source for the tiniest organism and the largest planetary system and

everything in between. When some- thing doesn’t work out for you, you must look at it and ask, “What is in this for me to learn? How can I better cooperate with things as they are?”

SP: Is it possible for a person not to have any motivation inside? Wayne Dyer: No, it isn’t. If you stop fighting the natural flow that is within everything and everyone, you will start motivating yourself to heights you can’t begin to comprehend. Motivation will then sneak up on you.

SP: Was there ever a time when you were demotivated? Wayne Dyer: There were times in various personal relationships, but, if I had known what I know now, I would have said to myself, “What is there in this for me to learn?” I would not have concentrated on my own misery.

SP: What has been the greatest motivating experience in your life? Wayne Dyer: Oh, that would be when each of my children was born. Each time, I see the miraculousness of the universe in that. A heart starts beating in a woman’s womb and no one on our planet knows anything about it. It’s a total mystery and yet everything that is needed for that blob of protoplasm to be a human is already there.

SP: How do you tell yourself that you are a winner? Wayne Dyer: Well, that’s simple. Nobody really knows enough to be a pessimist about themselves or their universe. We don’t understand very much about either one – so how can anyone not feel like a winner? We have no real knowledge to the contrary.

SP: Thank you. 
