Two years full-time for the Foundation Degree or one year full-time for the Certificate in Health and Social Care.


Entry requirements


Standard entry requirements apply. A typical offer is 160 UCAS tariff points or A level grades of DD (or DEE), or BTEC equivalent, MM (or MPP). Candidates with an Access course should have at least 15 points at merit. In addition applicants will be expected to have achieved GCSE English or equivalent at grade C or above. Prospective students will be invited for interview and in addition will undertake a literacy test. It is expected that students will demonstrate prior interest and engagement with health and social care in either a voluntary, personal or working perspective. All offers are subject to successful occupational health screening and a Disclosure and Barring Screening (DBS) report.


Course summary


This programme is aimed at people wishing to enter health or social care provision in an advanced support worker role or similar and is designed to provide a theoretical basis for practical skills, enabling graduates to fulfil Senior Support Worker, Assistant Practitioner or similar roles in health and social care sectors.

Course summary


The programme adopts an interdisciplinary perspective to the study of health, illness and disease in modern western and developing societies. The Joint Honours programme draws on the areas of sociology, social policy, psychology, biology and nutrition from a global perspective. The programme is delivered by a dedicated multi- disciplinary team who have expertise in the areas of sociology, social policy and psychology and who strive to maintain excellence in teaching, research and student support. The Joint Honours programme allows you to take Health Studies with another subject of interest including (but not limited to) Sport Studies, Psychology, Social Care and Business Studies. Recent graduate employers include Age UK, MIND and adult social services.
