Attendance Three years full-time. Students apply to study Early Childhood Studies BA (Hons) and if they meet all the additional entry requirements at the end of Year One can apply for a place on the professional pathway leading to Early Years Teacher Status.


Entry requirements


Standard entry requirements apply. A typical offer is 280 UCAS tariff points or A level grades of BCC, or BTEC equivalent, DMM. In addition to the entry requirements for BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies, applicants will have Science equivalent to a GCSE grade C. They must also pass the Department for Education’s professional skills tests in numeracy and literacy. Applicants will need to attend an interview. Disclosure and Barring Screening (DBS) checks are undertaken.


Course summary


Early Childhood Studies BA (Hons) Professional Pathway (leading to Early Years Teacher Status) focuses on the holistic development of young children (birth to eight years old) with a specific focus on Early Years Teacher Status (aged 0–5). You will have to undertake 120 days of placements in a range of early years settings and have the opportunity to visit a European country to study early years provision in a different context.

Entry requirements Standard entry requirements apply. Applications are welcomed from students with a HND in a related field. Please refer to our website for further details on entry requirements. Applicants are normally expected to have written English and Mathematics equivalent to a GCSE grade C. Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to Early Childhood Studies by having undertaken prior experience of working with children under the age of eight. Applicants will need to attend an interview. Disclosure and Barring Screening (DBS) checks are undertaken.


Course summary


The programme is designed to allow progression from a Foundation Degree or HND to an honours degree. You will strengthen your knowledge of young children’s holistic development and have opportunities to undertake placements and field work in educational settings. The programme is ideal for students who are already in the workplace and those wishing to proceed to Early Years Teacher Status (aged 0–5), Qualified Teacher Status (aged 3–7 or 5–11) or MA Social Work.
