Entry requirements
Standard entry requirements apply. A typical offer is 280 UCAS tariff points or A level grades of BCC, or BTEC equivalent, DMM (applicants are expected to have studied an Art, Design or related subject, or a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design). Applicants are interviewed and are requested to provide a portfolio of their own work in Art and Design. International students may submit their portfolio electronically. Students with a relevant HND or Foundation Degree with a suitable profile of achievement may be admitted onto Year Two or Three.
Course summary
This programme develops creative thinking through diverse and challenging illustration projects that reflect the expectations of the creative industries and the requirements of the profession. Students will acquire skills in the use of digital technologies and in the traditional areas of a visual studio practice, such as drawing, to encourage innovation in the interpretation and communication of ideas. Historical references, contemporary practice, cultural and social contexts also inform the learning experience, so students are well equipped practically and conceptually to take on a range of employment on graduation.

The programme develops creative thinking and practice through a range of challenging learning experiences that relate to the design of commercial, domestic and public spaces. Studio projects are informed by contemporary design attitudes, current trends, social contexts and the relationship of other areas of art and design to this subject. Industry and business focussed projects, working with current technologies and the development of visual language skills will help students acquire the knowledge and confidence to design for a range of applications. The design studio and technical workshops provide the environment for innovation in the production of two and three dimensional work.
