Industry’s Smallest ICP- OES Helps Researchers Test Complex Food, Industrial and
Environmental Samples
PerkinElmer, Inc (USA) have announced the launch of the Avio 200 Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES), the industry’s most compact system designed for effi cient multi- elemental inorganic analysis. This innovative technology helps laboratory professionals running inorganic analyses and facing an
expanding range of sample types to test diffi cult, high-matrix samples without the need for dilution.
The Avio 200 system has the matrix tolerance to handle a wide variety of samples and to test across a broad set of applications such as: nutrients analysis for nutritional labeling; compliance with the RoHS Directive, an industry restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical/electronic equipment; analysis of soil micronutrients; determination of trace elements in water; and evaluation of metal levels in toys.

The Avio 200 system is designed to help laboratory professionals enhance their productivity through its ability to deliver increased uptime and minimal maintenance.
The system features a vertical plasma design for greater sample fl exibility, low argon consumption (via patented Flat Plate plasma technology), and fast start up from power on for enhanced productivity. It also offers high sensitivity and resolution, along with a wide linear range by means of its unique dual optical viewing technology.
Laboratory professionals running inorganic analyses that need to measure more than one element at a time can now leverage the Avio 200 system for multi-element analyses with the same ease of use as atomic absorption (AA), but without the fl ammable gases. The system is also as cost-effi cient and cost-effective as AA technology without the need to purchase lamps when running new elements. The system also leverages the cross-platform Syngistix software for atomic spectroscopy for a seamless transition from AA to ICP software.

Its HygroClip2-compatibility allows humidity to be registered to the highest degree of accuracy. Depending on demand and application any other Rotronic probe can be connected. The data can be transferred via analogue outputs or MODBUS. Measured values, alarms and measurement curves are shown on the display.

A fi ne membrane separates the aqueous media from the mass spectrometer sample intake, the membrane providing a very signifi cant enrichment in gaseous throughput relative to that of water vapour. Interface types include insertion probes for direct immersion in the liquid media, fl ow-through patterns, cuvette styles for photo-sensitive biofuel studies, DEMS cells for monitoring of electrochemical reactions. The media interface fl exibility is of signifi cant interest for multiple application users in university and research laboratories, and all systems are equipped with automated inlet isolation to protect the system from overpressure in the event of membrane malfunction.

The system combines Merck’s Elix electrodeionisation technology with advanced purifi cation, including Progard pretreatment cartridges, reverse osmosis and bactericidal UV lamp treatment. The new models include Merck’s E.R.A. (Evolutive Reject Adjustment) technology, which automatically optimizes water recovery and reduces water usage costs by taking feed water quality into account.
