Portable Gas Detector Now Offers Extended Battery Life
Tyco Gas & Flame Detection (USA) is pleased to announce that the GMI PS200 portable gas detector is now available with a new catalytic bead sensor option that provides an increased battery life of up to 80 hours in diffusion mode and 20 hours in pump mode. Both lightweight and durable, the instrument is ideal for protection in hotworks and confi ned space applications. The PS200 monitors and displays up to 4 hazardous gas conditions simultaneously, detecting all possible combinations of Methane, Oxygen, Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen Sulfi de, and a wide range of fl ammable gases.
Operator interface and calibration are intuitive and easy by toggling between simple one-button functions. During normal operation the large LCD screen displays battery life and real-time gas concentrations, but when a hazardous condition occurs users are alerted by three alarm functions: vibration, red fl ashing LEDs, and audible buzzer. To ensure the highest level of personal safety, the PS200 is also fi tted with an optional man down/motion sensor that activates alarms if the instrument is not moved within a pre-set time. Other features include an optional built in remote sampling pump for confi ned space entry, manual backlight screen for poor lighting conditions, a customized user identifi cation code setup, calibration due date display and standard datalogging that can be downloaded with a USB connection to a computer. Accessory components available separately include an Auto Bump and Calibration Station, a 5-instrument multi-charger and an assortment of colored boots/instrument covers.

The new Nitrogen Dioxide sensor provides Original Equipment Manufacturers with an alternative to other offerings for use in a number of applications. Strong signal levels combined with low zero current and the 4th electrode allows resolution to 10 parts per billion. The sensors are suitable for inclusion in fi xed installation sensing heads, portable safety instruments or stack gas analysers.

The sensors incorporate innovative catalyst technology and special fi lters for Ozone, NO etc., which reduces the effects of a number of common cross interference gases whilst ensuring batch to batch consistency and stable output. Physical robustness allows use of the sensors in the most demanding environments.
As with all other Alphasense sensors the use of stabilisation racks to continuously monitor every sensor during initial conditioning ensures that only sensors operating within specifi cation are passed to the companies unique ATAV (Alphasense Test and Validation) system. The key operating characteristics for every sensor are recorded against the sensor serial number which is bar coded onto the sensor. This data can be released to purchasers at the time of despatch so that full traceability is maintained.

Advanced NDIR Sensor for SF6 or Refrigerants
The IR series of infrared gas detection sensors, from N.E.T. (Italy), use the technique of NDIR (Non Dispersive Infrared) to monitor the presence of SF6 or refrigerants. This
technique is based on the fact that the gas has a unique and well defi ned light absorption curve in the infrared spectrum that can be used to identify the specifi c gas. The gas concentration can be determined by using a suitable infrared source and by analysing the quantity of energy absorbed from the gas inside the optical path. The IREF-P sensor is equipped with electronics and fi rmware in order to provide an output that is linearised and temperature compensated. The output is analogue voltage type [0.4 V—2 V] dc (other voltages are available on request). IREF P is now SIL2 approved. The main features are: analogue voltage standard output, incorporated signal, linearisation and temperature compensation suited for instrument manufacturers without any specialist knowledge in IR technology, standard sensor size 32 mm, fast response, solid, rugged construction, wide operating temperature and humidity range (-20°C +60°C) and new optics “Variable Geometry”.
