Refex (Ireland) reference sensors are designed for arduous application particularly where fouling or poisoning conditions exist. The reference uses a highly stable non-porous polymeric interface in place of the traditional porous liquid junction used by all conventional reference electrodes.
The active reference area is the whole of the outside surface of the electrode, this super large contact area means that the electrode is supremely resistant to coatings. Poisoning effects are eliminated because the polymeric reference material is ionically conductive, but is not porous,
consequently electrolyte and process fl uids are not exchanged.
The Refex electrode is exceptionally resistant to applications containing poisons such as cyanide, ammonia and sulphides. This immunity is achieved because the polymeric reference is ionically conductive but not porous and prevents elements of the process from contaminating the electrode causing drift and inevitable failure.

Used to remove ammonia and dissolved hydrogen sulphide from sour water the stripper prevents a challenging pH measurement application. The stripper is operated at around 80ºC to facilitate removal of the gases. Hydrogen sulphide can block the reference by precipitating silver whilst ammonia and cyanide poison the reference by forming a complex with the silver ion. These effects can be so severe that traditional references may last only days. The Refex sensor is not porous so does not suffer these effects because the polymeric reference is a non porous, impermiable barrier to the poisoning process chemicals. Refex lifetime in this application typically exceeds 12 months.

for Scottish Water Scottish Water has become the fourth major water company to invest in the quality of its network, using the latest technology for measuring chlorine.
ATi’s (UK) ground-breaking continuous battery powered ChlorNets have been installed following their proven accurate, reliable and real-time data. This will enable Scottish Water to understand their networks better, reduce unnecessary costs and ultimately improve its quality of water.
Working in partnership with Process Plus, fi ve ChlorNets were installed and commissioned at four different locations across Scotland. The new system was installed smoothly and without the need to calibrate any of the monitors. The ChlorNets will now be left for a few months to gather data on chlorine levels and temperature.

Sulphides also build up in waste water systems due to the anaerobic (without oxygen) conditions that commonly occur. As with sour water in the petroluim industry the non porous Refex reference is a barrier to the disolved sulfi des, it prevents any precipitation of silver and so is not effected by the pronounced drift and failure that will rapidly destroy traditional porous reference systems.

New Water Level Datalogger Launched
Solinst Canada Ltd. is pleased to announce the latest release in their datalogger series - the all-new Model 3500 AquaVent. The AquaVent uses a vented pressure transducer for reliable, accurate datalogging of water levels in groundwater and surface water applications, no need for barometric compensation.
The AquaVent combines pressure and temperature sensors, datalogger, and FRAM memory for up to 120,000 data sets within a 7/8” x 7” (22 mm x 178 mm) stainless steel housing. It uses a gauged pressure transducer; it is open to the atmosphere via a vented cable to surface. Custom designed, durable vented cable assemblies are available to 500 feet.
The AquaVent provides the same reliability and durability as our Levelogger. The AquaVent pressure transducer is made of Hastelloy, making it extremely durable and accurate in a wide range of temperature and monitoring conditions. The sensor provides an accuracy of 0.05% FS, and can withstand 2 times over-pressure without permanent damage.
The AquaVent features a robust, low maintenance design. Permanent factory installed desiccants and hydrophobic fi lters mean there is no need for replacement – helping ensure the Vented Cable remains dry for the lifetime of the instrument. The batteries are user-replaceable, can last 8 years (based on 1 reading per minute), and are conveniently located in the Wellhead at surface.
The AquaVent has options for communicating strictly with Solinst software and communication accessories, including the Solinst Levelogger App and DataGrabber, or integrating into a telemetry system, SCADA/PLC system, or a third-party datalogger using SDI-12 or MODBUS protocols.

It is possible to connect one level sensor (ultrasonic, pressure, etc.) with a 4-20 mA output to the unit. The unit can be programmed using three front panelpush buttons. The programming menu offers a wide variety of primary fl ow elements - fl umes and weirs, and for others enables the calculation of fl ow rate in partially fi lled pipes and angular open channels using the Manning equation. It is also possible to enter the special h/Q fl ow table, using the PC software “Flow Meter Tool”. This software allows programming of all parameters and also the download of logged data. The users’ PC can be connected via USB interface (IP67 mini USB connector is mounted on the meter housing) or Ethernet interface. The Flow Meter Tool PC software is unique to Badger Meter devices ModMAG M1000, ModMAG M2000, B-MAG I M5000 and iSonic 4000. This feature allows programming and control all addressed devices connected via Ethernet interface within the scope of one facility, from a PC using running the Flow Meter software tool.
