Marjorie Hillman Receives Poole Civic Award
Following receipt of a Poole Community Champion Award last year, Marjorie Hillman, a Creekmoor resident since 1986, has been honoured again this time with a Poole Civic Award for her work over many years with two local not-for-profi t clubs, the Go-Ahead Ladies (the GALS) and Creekmoor Travel Club.
The award ceremony was held at Upton House on 11th March in the presence of, amongst others, Poole's Mayor, Cllr. Xena Dion (who nominated Marjorie) and Poole's Sheriff, Cllr. Lindsay Wilson.
Marjorie said: "the award recognises the hard work which many have put in to make our two sister organisations so successful over the last 20+ years and, as such, I was pleased to receive it really on their behalf.
The two clubs continue to meet regularly each month in Broadstone (providing a varied programme of speakers), attracting around 60 members at each meeting, and run an annual itinerary of day trips by coach, plus two or three holidays each year for members of GALS and their families and friends. In fact, anyone is welcome on the coach trips and holidays which, we hope, will go some way towards combatting loneliness and boredom, especially amongst the older generation. We would welcome enquiries from anyone who might like to join us in having fun and learning through travelling. Please
telephone 01202 246221 for further information." 72 To advertise, please contact 01202 657317 or email
