Broadstone Youth Club Needs You
If you are a parent reading this, you are probably 'looking forward' to the Easter holidays. Two weeks of your children at home…eating too much chocolate and trying to persuade them off their screens and into the garden.
At Broadstone Youth Club we will be sorting out the schedule for the summer term and trying to work out if we have enough volunteers to run the new Tuesday Group for children in Year 7.
At the moment, it won’t be happening unless we have two more volunteers age 18+ and one young volunteer age 15-18. People assume that volunteering is hard work or stressful, but it isn’t. This term, as well as all the usual sport, music and general hangout time, we have been swimming with 25 young people, tasted Chinese food, hunted Easter eggs, run a pool tournament, learned about the risks of drugs and alcohol and run competitions to race Maltesers through an obstacle course, hold a note the longest (that was painful!), bend the lowest for the Cornflake box game and eaten far too many hot dogs and chocolate.
WE NEED YOU!
Our club is run purely by volunteers. Aged 15-81, male/female, parents, siblings, grandparents and
people totally unconnected to young people and we only attend for two hours a week in term time only. Broadstone is seen as an area of low need, so we don’t qualify for a funded youth worker – but the council does let us use the building rent free.
In these difficult times, Poole Council is looking to make as much as possible from every space they own so, although we have 120 children coming every week, there is a real risk if we don’t expand that the council will seek to make the building pay for itself through another use. Opening a Year 7 session not only means that we provide a great evening for the children, but help to protect our future for the longer term. Can you help us open the extra night? Some of our existing team are happy to swap, so if you can offer a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening – even on a fortnightly basis – that would be amazing. Please don’t delay, contact me today and help our young people get the youth centre they deserve.
