Poole Athletic Club Stars at the Inter-Counties Cross-Country


In the National Inter-Counties races at Loughborough on March 11th, two young stars shone for PAC. In the under-13 boys’ race, William R placed 11th of the 297 fi nishers. Not to be outdone, Emilie C came 7th of the 304 in her u13G race. Each were less than 35 seconds behind their winners on that 3km course – an amazing feat in such company. Five other PAC athletes fi nished in the front half of their races. A total of nineteen from the club contested nine of the ten races. More than 2,500 runners took part in this premier event.


Helping Dorset in Sports Hall Finals


Also on March 11th, 22 of our young athletes travelled to Paignton for the South-West Sports Hall Finals. By achieving several podium places, our fi ve u11G helped Dorset to win their team competition. The other counties involved were Avon, Devon and Gloucestershire. The athletes had to contend with a number of unexpected events, plus odd equipment like soft batons in the relays! Maybe we can use this experience in future?


In the other age-groups, Adam B won the speed bounce and Lewis N won the 4-lap race for the u15B;


Caitlin B won the shot in the u15G; Sam B won the 6-lap race for the u13B; and


Callum McG


won the u11B vertical jump. There were many other great performances, eg. from Edward P, Frankie C-M, Niamh K, Olivia B, Jaya C and Alastair F.


Three More Qualify


For any sports club that is increasing its numbers, continually getting members to qualify on the coaching ladder is vital to be able to help those new athletes. Thus to have one new full Coach (Martin C) and two new Coaching Assistants (Max H and Tom C) is a timely boost to our coaching team. But we will never have enough!
