Broadstone First School, Age 4-9

We have some fabulous news here at Broadstone First School.

We have been awarded a grant from the BIG LOTTERY FUND. We are so grateful to have received £10,000!

This grant will be used specifi cally to develop the outdoor area in Reception.

We will be installing:

• A large wooden climbing frame that has a scramble net and rope handrail integrated in it. This will provide a great physical challenge for the children, allowing them to work on their motor skills and build on their balance and strength abilities. The structure of the climbing frame is triangular and therefore it also lends itself to den building, linking it to imaginative play and play in groups.

• A mini stage, with den posts. Simply being outside the confi nes of a traditional classroom gives children a sense of freedom and leaves them feeling less inhibited, the knock on effects of which will lead to improved posture, better voice projection and greater creativity.

• Thermoplastic roadway and parking bays. Again, focusing on imaginative play and creating a more structured play facility for ride-on toys to be utilised. This area will also teach children about road awareness through their play, which would help them to be safe.

The den posts are timber posts that include integrated eyebolts and can be used for creating tunnels, dens, number lines and used as props to support open ended play. Tie or thread rope through the eyebolts or simply drape a cover over the top! They are great for encouraging role playing and imaginative play, which will again build confi dence amongst the children.

Watch this space for updates on how our project develops.

THANK YOU BIG LOTTERY FUND!
