Aloha Dunedin.
Paws down, Dunedin has to be the dog-friendliest town in Florida. Now, some of you will beg for a piece of bacon to differ. But, paws down, if you’re reading this from another part of Florida, get thee to Dunedin with a hearty appetite and your dogs. There are fun dog-friendly restaurants and pubs all over this town. Bailey, our doggie dining diva, was looking
forward to her visit to The HONU in Dunedin. Across from City Hall on Grant Street, the restau- rant offers up deliciously fresh food with excellent service and a fun atmosphere. Everything here is made from scratch by Chef Kimberly Platt, includ- ing the items on their Doggie Menu (dog-tested by Platt’s pups, Renni and Chloeee). Co-owners Platt and her wife Lisa have put
their heart and soul into every corner of this beau- tifully converted bungalow and its eclectic menu. After a full year of planning, wrapped around an extended stay in Hawaii, they opened The HONU earlier this year. Honu is the Hawaiian term for tur- tle, typically referring to the endangered Green Sea Turtle of Hawaii. The concept of the restaurant is billed as “a
lei'd back cafe.” Menu items are, naturally, inspired by Hawaii with a healthy twist. The HONU is the big Kahuna to their popular food truck, Charlie Tulum’s Dos Tacos, known for its delicious variety of fresh tacos. Of course, tacos are on the menu daily —fish, shrimp, breakfast and specials. They are all delicious—we had one of each during our visit. Most of the recipes can be made vegetarian or
vegan. Just ask.

Hula Mary is The HONU’s own version of the Bloody Mary. The Mimosa trio is served with three different juices alongside your champagne.
Michael and Lania Berger are big fans of Bailey. They first heard about The HONU in THE NEW BARKER.
