Friends of Strays hosted a unique event in May at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club. Catcon+DogFest featured flyball and lure coursing demonstrations, vendors, food trucks and some cool giveaways. (Top photos): Subi, the Corgi, and Colt, the Australian Shepherd, demonstrate fun form in flyball. (Right): We met Jodi and her VIP Rescue adopted dog, Gypsy, who is still a little people-shy. They were at the event representing the Fonzie Foundation, an organization that is helping fami- lies and rescue groups with the cost of unexpected emergency pet care. Valrico: BarkAID As a hair stylist, he’s a rockstar.


As an animal advocate, he’s a lifesaver. Patrick Lomantini created BarkAID in 2010 to raise funds and awareness for homeless animals and educate people about what’s happen- ing with animals in their communities. This year’s 50 state tour included a stop in Valrico at Salon Roxy. Lomantini and Salon Roxy stylists cut and styled hair with proceeds going to Second Chance Boxer Rescue.
