If you’re feeling creative and have time before Christmas itself is upon us, spend a morning with the kids making edible gifts – lemon or orange
curds, homemade shortbread and biscotti, chocolate truffles all make lovely presents for friends, family and grandparents.

The book world may have gone Kindle crazy but real cook books are still
coveted for some armchair browsing and kitchen action. Christmas is a great time for new cook books coming out - so a lovely present for a foodie friend.

If your palate’s getting a bid jaded, spice things up
with some zingy chilli sauce shaken over things or a bottle of homemade chilli sherry; best kept away from the trifle though!

Hot spiced apple juice is a lovely winter warmer if you’ve come in from the cold. Heat up 2 large bottles of apple juice
strips of zest from an orange. Bring to the boil and let it simmer very gently for 5-10 minutes to infuse the spices. Drink straightaway or keep cool and reheat as and when you need it.

Packets of herb seeds are a good stocking filler for kids and adults who like cooking. They can set
them to grow in the spring and then be cooking with them all summer long.
help from the rest of the family for laying the table, washing up, doing some prep and keeping you company as you cook. Try not to get stressed about the big Christmas meal – things may go wrong but if you see it as just a big Sunday roast then hopefully you’ll get to enjoy it all too.
