Best Little Film Club in Town DARTMOUTH FILM SOCIETY

Thinking of your proper

DARTMOUTH FILM SOCIETY

D

artmouth Film Society started life in early 1997 with a lot of hard work, enthusiasm and ‘cranky’ equipment – funded by an Arts Council grant. During its first year it achieved BFFS’s ‘Best New Film Society

We’re going a bit mad to encourage existing members to re-join - and to welcome new ones.

Award’ - no mean feat considering that, with no real home, films had to be shown in restaurants, hotels and once even on a beach! At times a struggle - but always enjoyable - the Club grew and flourished in its new Guildhall home, now recently refurbished and with updated comfy seats. For over twenty years the DFS Team has continued striving to give the people what they want, despite the challenge of fluctuating membership numbers. Now we’re on the lookout for more film-lovers to join our happy band of loyal members. The last thing we want to say is ‘Use It or Lose It’, so we’re going a bit mad to encourage existing members to re-join - and to welcome new ones. In ‘Join-Up January’ we’re offering guests a BOGOF offer on tickets, plus offering current members annual membership for only £35 (£40 thereafter). With 20+ films per year, that represents incredible value - £1.70 per film (if joining before Feb - £1.90 if after) - and with an extra film in 2017 to celebrate our 20+, this surely must make it the best value Film Club around.

And the benefits of becoming part of the DFS Club? • We aim to show a varied mix of interesting films: modern, classic, drama, comedy, music, documentary, foreign and more. Where else could you have enjoyed little-known gems like Babette’s Feast, Story of the Weeping Camel, Bienvenue Chez Le Ch’Tis, Untouchable - and many more?

• We like to make film evenings more enjoyable with drinks and snacks available before the start and during the interval. With reasonable bar prices of a decent glass of wine or beer for just £2 and soft drinks for less, where else in town can you enjoy a drink and a good film for under £4?

• Add to this the relaxed, friendly atmosphere where you can come along and meet your friends, Members’ free film hire, 50/50 raffle, early finish for those ‘across the water’, free Christmas party with food and complimentary drink for members, concessions on special events etc. - what’s not to like?

JOINING IS SIMPLE! Come along to any fortnightly Thursday screening or call/e mail Barbara: 07974 781021/dartmouthfilm@btinternet.com

Bar opens 7.00pm. Film starts 7.30pm. Guest tickets on night £4.00 (£5 from Dec) from ‘The Windjammer’ , Victoria Road 7.00pm - 7.25pm only. No guest tickets will be sold on the door.
