in conversation with a passionate individual

This month we chat to Jacquie Slater, Corporate Trainer for Dermalogica, to find out more about her love for the beauty industry and life away from work.

I ended up in the beauty industry because I had tried to get a job in TV working in hair and make-up but I kept narrowly missing, so took a job at a salon until the next interview came up.

The best thing about my job isworking with so many inspiring and brave women.

There is no average day for me which is what I love. Every day is different but more often than not I will be involved in the training and development of our instructors.

If I wasn’t in the beauty industry I would be working in film or television, researching and designing make-up, prosthetics and hair.

My ideal weekend would be a hotel or cottage on the coast with my boyfriend, walking, going to tea shops and having lovely dinners.

When growing up my role model was my dad. He worked incredibly hard and could turn his hand to anything.

My favourite book is Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks.

My favourite film is Schindler’s List. My beauty icon isAudrey Hepburn.

My favourite beauty treatment is a deep tissue or hot stone massage.

My top beauty tip is to wear SPF every day come rain or shine.

My guilty pleasure is watching too many episodes of made-for-TV dramas like The Bridge, Breaking Bad, and Fargo.

“If I wasn’t in the beauty industry I would be working in film or television, researching and designing make-up, prosthetics and hair.”

My strengths are training practical skills.

You might not know that I love football.

I couldn’t live without my son.

The most famous person I have met is Gary Lineker at our local chippy.

I’m at my happiest when the people I love most are happy.

The motto I live by is, ‘find joy in every day.’

I would like to be remembered as someone who had a huge passion for an industry and a job she loved and never tired of, even after 35 years… and counting.
