treatment review: K.B.Microblading treatment review

What: K.B. Pro Microblading Brow Treatment

Where: 1 Harley Street, London, W1G 9QD

T: 0844 801 6838 With: Karen Betts, K.B. Pro

Regardless of any trends or fashion statements, brows are an integral part of creating a balance of facial features, which is why several years ago I entrusted Karen Betts of Nouveau Beauty Group to create my perfectly structured and shaded brows using her micropigmentation technique.

Now Karen has created an innovative development in the sector with her Microblading technique, K.B. Pro By Karen Betts, and I was keen to see if the results matched her original method.

As a pioneer in the art of permanent cosmetics and specialist in medical tattooing, Karen has been developing eyebrow enhancement treatments in the UK for over two decades; she even partnered with Nilam Holmes-Patel to create the famed High Definition Brow (formerly HD Brows) which helped catapult sculpted brows into the global psyche.

With the term ‘microblading’ emerging as an industry buzzword of late and therefore

attracting additional interest, Karen was keen to move brow treatments forward by offering access to high quality education enabling brow artists to perform exceptional treatments under the K.B. Pro brand.

Alongside developing the 100 hour microblading course, Karen also patented a brand-new ergonomic microblading tool with a built-in, detachable depth guard. “We wanted to make sure K.B. Pro-trained microblading technicians feel relaxed and confident in their skills from the start. So we designed our own custom tool that would feel good and prevent hand fatigue, and would also guide you to the right depth in the skin every time,” Karen told Guild News.

A new range of pigments has also been developed over the last two years alongside a specialist pigment scientist.

Karen invited me to her Harley Street Clinic to experience a K.B. Pro brow treatment. After assessing the existing shape and colour of my brows (I still had some pigment and shape from my treatment with Karen some years previously), Karen plotted where the pigment should be placed to ensure my brows were perfectly spaced, arched and regular to frame and complement my facial structure.

After applying a topical anaesthetic, she began by scratching the surface of the skin where the pigment would be placed using the blade on the K.B. Pro tool to create tiny channels, achievable by the fine blade attached to the microblading tool, ensuring that each individual channel represented an individual hair.

The tool itself is lightweight and ergonomically designed to sit in an artist’s

hands comfortably, enabling you to carry out several treatments per day without discomfort or strain.

A tiny amount of pigment which Karen had matched to my natural hair and skin tone was inserted into each channel using the tip of the blade. This was pushed down so that the skin would heal over leaving the pigment inside the epidermis. As the pigment filled the channels, the look of tiny, individual brow hairs was created giving the overall effect of a fuller brow. “There’s an optimum depth for each stroke you make so the pigments take hold properly and won’t fade too quickly,” Karen explains.

The treatment was completely painless and, as opposed to a traditional micropigmentation treatment, no machine is used and therefore it was silent, making it incredibly relaxing. I was also surprised it took just an hour, based on Karen’s years of expertise.

Following the treatment, I was given a pot of healing balm which I applied after 48 hours for the next seven days. As the injured skin healed, the brows scabbed slightly, as expected, and once the top layer of pigment had been naturally exfoliated over the period of a week, I was left with stunningly sculpted, full, dark and natural looking brows that rivalled any traditional micropigmentation treatment.

K.B. Pro launches in Autumn 2016. Training is available at Karen Betts’ academies.
