SAFETY PROGRAMS Safe Kids


Woodridge Community Center • 2600 Center Drive, Woodridge


This interactive class focuses on thinking safely and making safe choices. Learn simple rules that kids can use in many situations. Kids learn what to do in an emergency, when to call 911 and how to deal with strangers. Bicycle, skateboard and in-line skating safety, playground rules, water safety and more are covered. Each child receives a certificate of completion. This is a cooperative program with the Woodridge Park District.

Safe Kids With First Aid Woodridge Community Center • 2600 Center Drive, Woodridge


Safety and first aid go hand in hand. Children learn simple rules to think safely and make safe choices at home and away. We also present basic first aid information, including treatment of small cuts, bumps, bruises, nosebleeds, minor burns and more. Each child receives a safety packet and creates a small first aid kit to take home. This is a cooperative program with the Woodridge Park District.

INTELLECTUAL PROGRAMS


Let’s Build It! Chain Reaction in Action Woodridge Community Center • 2600 Center Drive, Woodridge


The ball rolls down the ramp, turns the switch, that moves the post, that activates the zip-line, that knocks the ball down the ramp and into the goal! In this STEAM program, students will be building Rube Goldberg ‘Mouse Trap’ chain-reaction machines featuring levers, pulleys, and other simple machines. Engineering and physics concepts will be introduced and rein- forced through hands-on, innovative lessons and creative play time. Prob- lem solving skills and teamwork will be put to the test as the complexity of the projects increase from week to week. On the final class, there will be a building competition - How many contraptions can you connect in chain reaction? No previous experience is necessary, just a desire to learn and build. Each student will receive an award on the last day of the session, and have the opportunity to earn Energy Belts to demonstrate their learned skills! This is a cooperative program with the Woodridge Park District.

Lemonade Stand Coaching Lisle Recreation Center • 1925 Ohio Street, Lisle


Children’s entrepreneurship is a hot extracurricular activity with today’s youth and for most kids this means lemonade stand wars this spring! This critical thinking class will foster unique ideation along with opportunities in cultivating self-esteem all surrounding the nostalgic concept of a child’s lemonade stand. The concept of a lemonade stand will receive a ‘facelift’ with exhilarating marketing and business ideas. Kids will participate in a high energy blow out brainstorm meeting and will be taught how to ‘piggy- back’ on ideas, along with the way to attract positive things in life. Children will also learn about collaboration with their fellow business friends who are also trying their hand at entrepreneurship. Kids who have previously attended this class have tripled their sales at their novelty lemonade stand or have kicked off on their first try with a bang! All kids receive a lemon- ade themed souvenir. Lisa Lombardi Coaching will ‘meet your child’ exactly where they are in their development to allow for a fantastic experience. This is a cooperative program with the Woodridge Park District.

Chess Scholars Woodridge Community Center • 2600 Center Drive, Woodridge


Develop your child’s intellect through the royal game of chess! Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic perfor- mance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Also, chess has been proven to enhance children’s motivation, concen- tration, focus, social skills, and creativity. Open to grades 1-5. No previous knowledge of chess is necessary. Each class will consist of a fun interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both beginner and experienced participants are welcome and will get to the next level under the guid- ance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. There will also be a chess competition with prizes at the end of the session! Each child will receive a participation award and a chess keychain. This is a cooperative program with the Woodridge Park District.
