Arup Arup, the engineering and design consultancy, has welcomed a record 36 new graduates and 10 apprentices to its Midlands campus. It is the largest number of graduates and apprentices welcomed by


the firm in the last decade. This year’s bumper intake of new recruits, totalling 46 engineers


and specialists, joined the firm as part of its annual graduate intake. The new graduates and apprentices will be working across a variety


of high profile projects both locally and nationally. Key clients in region include HS2 Ltd, Highways England and Birmingham City Council. Following the new graduate appointments, the firm’s Midlands


office in Blythe Valley Park in Solihull now exceeds 700. Livvy Cropper, graduate consultant, said: “I’m pleased that a global


firm like Arup has an office in Solihull as it means that I’m able to progress with next stage of my career without having to relocate to a new city. “It can be daunting to start a new job so it’s great to joining at the


same time as 35 other people, and the Graduate Induction Week is a great way to get to know each other!” Mark Jones, Arup director, said: “The graduate scheme is vital to our

Hawksmoor Lichfield-based surveying company Hawksmoor is on the expansion trail, after moving to new offices and taking on a further surveyor. The new face is Tom Bathurst,


formerly with Cushman & Wakefield in Birmingham. He will be specialising in the identification and acquisition of development opportunities, financial appraisal and valuation of land and property, land acquisition/disposal negotiations and project management, as will newly promoted colleague Lisa Cooke. Lisa, also 28, joined Hawksmoor


in 2012 after obtaining a Masters degree in Real Estate from Reading University and has now been promoted to senior surveyor.


Smith Cooper Midland accountant Smith Cooper, which has an office in Birmingham, has appointed three new graduates to its audit team. Among the newcomers is Mohammed Imran, who previously worked for Boots as a finance assistant. He said: “I am very excited to be


a part of a leading accountancy firm working with talented people and I look forward to a bright future here at Smith Cooper.” Alex Symonds has joined Smith


Cooper having recently graduated from Nottingham Trent University, where he studied financial mathematics. He said: “I am absolutely thrilled to become a part of this rapidly progressing firm and I am thoroughly excited to become a part of the journey.” The third new appointment is


Dan Dobrzycki has also joined the firm, having graduated from Loughborough University with a sports science and business degree.


EY Professional services firm EY has appointed partner Andrew Spence to lead its growing tax practice in the Midlands. As Head of Tax for the Midlands,


Andrew will be focused on growing the existing business and expanding into new service areas to meet the firm’s ambitious growth targets. Andrew is currently a Tax


Partner at EY based in the firm’s Birmingham office at 1 Colmore Square. Over the last 14 years Andrew


has worked with some of the region’s largest companies including FTSE 100, private equity, family-owned and entrepreneurial businesses. Andrew also leads EY’s


Entrepreneur Of The Year programme in the Midlands.


Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre Trust Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre Trust has appointed three new Trustees. Vidar Hjardeng MBE, Imandeep


Kaur and Harjinder Millington (pictured) will all join a volunteer board, chaired by John Crabtree. John said: “These appointments


will enable us to focus even more on our priorities: attracting increased numbers of audiences, widening access to our community programmes and engaging even more broadly across the region.”
