Awards have the feel good factor
1
The 2016 ‘Solihull Business Person of the Year’ has been named as Howard Rose, funding and publicity manager of Balsall Common Primary School. Mr Rose beat off stiff competition from the
other nominations in this category to win the prestigious title, sponsored by Arup, announced during the Solihull Chamber annual awards lunch. Balsall Common Primary School is recognised
as one of the best in the country. Since the school became an academy in 2012,
Mr Rose’s role has been to look for sponsorship, grants and apply for funding where available. He has also been responsible for developing relationships with local businesses, which allows the school to further enhance pupils’ education. Other winners in the awards, the 13th to be
held, included Faith Walker of FLR Group, ‘Small Business of the Year (up to 50 employees)’ and Sally Tomlinson of Worktaster, for ‘Best Use of Innovation’. Both awards were sponsored by Solihull Chamber. The four individual award category winners
were: Jack Buck of CMA Video, for ‘Young Achiever’, sponsored by The Wilkes Partnership; Emma Chetwynd Jarvis of Rock Power Connections, for ‘Outstanding Employee’, sponsored by Birmingham Airport; Karl Roberts of Mobile Freight Services, for ‘Career Development’, sponsored by Solihull College & University Centre; and Eileen Fegan of Solihull Heath Check Clinic, for ‘Customer Care’, sponsored by Flybe. Solihull Chamber director Joan Smith said: “I
am absolutely delighted that Howard Rose of Balsall Common School has won this award this year. He works very closely with Solihull Chamber, Solihull Council and Solihull College. “In my opinion every school should have a
Howard. He works tirelessly to find new opportunities for funding and sponsorships. His work creates fantastic opportunities for the pupils of the school to benefit from experiences which quite simply would be unaffordable. “Our annual awards lunch has established itself
as one of the highlights of the year for our Solihull Chamber members. This was our 13th year and we are delighted to have so many nominations for each category from our members. “We see this event as an opportunity to
recognise success and achievement. It has a real feel good factor and gives businesses an opportunity to reward their staff.”
Overall sponsor of the awards was Midshire. 30 CHAMBERLINK November 2016
