If you fail to plan, be prepared to fail

The key to running a sustainable business is having a SMART business plan. This should be implemented as your business guide. Vital aspects of your business will require clarity and focus, and the most significant question is: ‘Do you have a product that solves a problem or fulfils a need?’. If so, then you have identified your Value Proposition. This should be the magic beans of your business, from where you will identify ‘Who your target market is’. Other decisions about pricing, product placement, and promotions should grow from these magic beans. Many people focus on creating a visually appealing website, yet often

forget to put simple basics in place. As a result, their content becomes ineffective or irrelevant for their target audience. We recently delivered our Business Planning Seminar for a group of business

owners and entrepreneurs based in Birmingham, and the results have been outstanding. Our approach has been to apply the fundamentals of our tried and tested Business Plan Workbooks, to a delegate’s individual circumstances. Our template provide the actual framework, combined with case study

examples with our very own experience, and present delegates with great value - Enabling us to create a strategy that works for them. During the day of the seminar, delegates used words such as ‘clarity’,

‘direction’, and ‘innovative’ whilst providing feedback. Most importantly, they walked away with a business plan and strategy, which will increase their chances of achieving entrepreneurial success.

Our next Seminar is planned for November 2016 and we have already had requests to attend despite not confirming the date. If you would like to attend or for more information about our products and services, please email Info@NAConsulting.co.uk, visit www.NAConsulting.co.uk or Facebook/NA Consulting

What’s your greatest achievement so far? Securing an official licensed operators contract with the Rugby Football Union. We have worked with the RFU to facilitate hospitality packages at Twickenham for several years now.

What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken – and did it work out? Investing heavily in hospitality facilities at both Cheltenham and Ascot Racecourses in 2009 when in the grip of the recession. Definitely yes, this allowed us to secure prime locations and would now represent over £1.5m turnover.

What keeps you awake at night? I sleep like a baby.

If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? On a personal level I would have accepted the invitation to audition for the Ballet Rambert, on a business level I would have opened offices in London sooner than we did.

What has surprised you most in your job? If you search long enough and hard enough how many opportunities are actually available.

What advice would you give to someone starting out? Work hard and have good ethics, old fashioned I know. There is no quick fix.

Which business do you most admire? It would have to be Google. It is the door to the world’s library, not to mention the fact that it brings us a lot of business.

What exciting projects is your business working on? We have established the Eventmasters eCommerce team as an independent business, Soar Enterprises Online Limited. It will be interesting to see how it will develop.

What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? We felt that Eventmasters in particular needed to reconnect with the Birmingham and West Midlands region. We have a strong client base in the South East and feel there is a major growth opportunity in our own city. We feel that the Chamber will help with this process. We also have a number of other business interests which we are looking to promote, including Soar, Eventmasters Catering Services and the Silent Event Company. We hope to introduce a Silent Auction into the Chamber Annual Dinner and help raise money for the new president Paul Kehoe’s nominated charity.
