PwC looks to the future

PwC has welcomed 132 graduates and students into its Birmingham practice in the West Midlands. Across the Midlands region, the professional

services firm has recruited 201 graduates and students. This is a seven per cent increase on its 2015 intake

and also includes 42 people in its Castle Donington office in the East Midlands and 27 in its Milton Keynes office, which serves the South Midlands. The roles are spread across the firm’s assurance,

tax, consulting and deals businesses. They include graduate level positions, undergraduate business placements, internships and higher apprenticeships. A high proportion of PwC’s 2016 graduate and

student hires in the Midlands have come from universities within the region. Matt Hammond, regional chairman at PwC in the Midlands, said: “Welcoming our new graduates and undergraduates to PwC in the Midlands is always one of the highlights of the year. “With over 1,600 staff already across the region,

we’re passionate about promoting the Midlands as a fantastic place to live and work. “We are delighted that the class of 2016 is drawn

largely from the Midlands’ high calibre universities. We’re committed to investing in our next generation of talent and supporting them through their career development.”

Councillor Carl Rice led the festivities, addressing academics and graduates from the university, along with members of the British Council in China, local stakeholders and recruitment partners. Birmingham City University’s Shanghai office was established in 2006 to promote the university’s courses across mainland China, as well as guiding prospective students through the application process. Lord Mayor of Birmingham,

Councillor Carl Rice said: “I am delighted to be in Shanghai, flying the flag for the city of Birmingham, which has a close and long- standing relationship with China. “At the heart of our city is Birmingham City University, which is currently home to 800 students from China. Along with an already welcoming community of Chinese descent, these students enrich our city and contribute so much to what makes Birmingham a great place to live, work and study.”
