Milestone cricket match

Edgbaston is to make history by hosting the England cricket team’s first day-night Test Match next year. England will face the West Indies at Edgbaston in the

first Investec Test between 17 to 21 August. The match will be played with a pink ball between

the hours of 2pm and 9pm, subject to ICC clearance. The occasion also marks a significant milestone for

Edgbaston as the 50th Test Match in its 115-year history as an international venue. Neil Snowball, chief executive of Warwickshire

County Cricket Club, said: “Bringing day/night Test cricket to England is an innovative and very exciting development for the game, and we’re thrilled that Edgbaston will be the first venue to host a match played in this format. “Edgbaston staged the UK’s first day/night domestic

match in 1997 and has a great history of hosting and selling out some of the biggest fixtures in the game. “The Edgbaston atmosphere and match day

experience has become iconic, with England having a fantastic record of victories here.

‘We’re thrilled that Edgbaston will be the first venue to host a match played in this format’

“Marking our 50th Test anniversary with a game of

this magnitude will be a great occasion. We will be working very closely with our delivery partners and key stakeholders on our planning and operations to ensure that this first ever day/night Investec Test Match is a huge success.” The day/night format for the Investec Test Match

follows a successful trial at Edgbaston in August. Edgbaston Stadium’s role in hosting five of the

biggest fixtures in cricket’s ICC Champions Trophy 2017 is set to deliver a £25.3 million boost to the Birmingham economy according to a new study by Marketing Birmingham Regional Observatory.

Theatre upholds its reputation

The Repertory Theatre (above) has been named Venue of the Year at the 2016 Birmingham Awards. The award, handed out at the

Vox Conference Arena, was presented to The REP for its ability to host exhibitions, company events and functions. Stuart Rogers, executive director

at The REP, said: “A big thank you to everyone who voted for us and a huge congratulations to the events team and everyone else at The REP who helped us to win this award.” The REP is renowned for its

year-round programme of theatrical events. However, in its recent refurbishment the architects created spaces for conferences, exhibitions, client entertainment, meetings and banqueting.
