NEWS IN BRIEF Apologies to Largs Yacht Haven

In June’s Fore & Aft the wrong photo accompanied the article submitted by Carolyn Elder, Yacht Haven Director, at Largs Yacht Haven. The article covered the major project to deepen the entire marina basin which took 3 months to complete. The decision was taken to deepen the 700 berth harbour to -3m below chart datum and remove some of the high spots which had been in evidence for several years. Humber Workboats Ltd from Grimsby carried out the works which was completed on schedule, despite the dreadful weather, enduring the wettest winter since 1910. These works represent a significant

investment at the Yacht Havens Group marina to ensure its status as Scotland’s Finest Marina and the first marina in Scotland to be awarded TYHA 5 Gold Anchors in 2010.

Work has begun on the construction of Dunchurch Pools Marina on the Oxford Canal north of Braunston Junction. The marina has

been designed by the architects responsible for the Eden Project in Cornwall, working in partnership with the landscape architects

who created the most recent Wetland & Wildfowl Trust nature reserves. The natural form will sit comfortably in its parkland setting, while the design allows for easy navigation and generous manoeuvring space. The location, at the centre of the three junctions (Napton, Braunston and Norton), offers unrivalled cruising options and is easily accessible by road, rail and bus.

Managing Director, Joe Oliver said… “We are all very excited to start construction after many years making sure the design is absolutely right. Assuming the British weather allows earthworks to complete on time, we plan to hold open days in the autumn and expect to open the marina Spring 2017”.
