Barry Takes On National Training Role For BWML
BWML (British Waterways Marinas Ltd) has appointed Barry Glanville as its Group Training Manager. Barry, aged 50, who is originally from Yorkshire and lives in West Sussex, joined BWML in 2012 as Yorkshire Marinas Manager. His new role involves
overseeing all of BWML’s learning and development needs; developing and managing the group training strategy; overseeing the RYA Active Marinas programme; assisting the project leader of ‘Growing BWML’ with training and specialist support; gaining accreditation from external awarding bodies; mentoring and coaching; and
training delivery across all BWML marinas and the head office. Prior to joining BWML, Barry spent ten years in broadcasting before he felt the call of the sea, which led to commanding a diverse range of ships, including two new state of the art offshore training vessels. In 2004 he took command of the Marine Society’s
national school of leadership and management based in HMS Excellent, Portsmouth, which led to promotion as executive training superintendent. Commented Barry, ‘I am delighted to have been appointed Group Training Manager, especially as it brings together the two major strands of my career to date – training and life on the water. I look forward to working with my colleagues at BWML to ensure we are better equipped than ever to ensure our services exceed customers’ aspirations, and that our marinas continue to be run safely and effectively.’
