Bob Faller, director of sales for The Otesaga Resort Hotel, noted, “Golf at Leatherstocking is an unbeliev- able experience. And we do all we can to enhance it even more.“

When baseball blends with golf, the drama and exhilaration are definitely dis- tinctive. That excitement happens nearly every day at Otesaga Resort Hotel and its Leatherstocking Golf Course, situated in Cooperstown,NY. “We like to tie-in events with the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and golf outings are no exception,”advises Bobby Faller, The Otesaga’s director of sales. “Fun is endless and opportunities abound.”

Leatherstocking is one of the most scenic and challenging resort courses in the Eastern U.S. It was designed in 1909 by Devereux Emmet who created a natural contour terrain meandering along Lake Otsego’s western shoreline. Two finishing holes lauded for producing scores that adequately reflect the player’s level of skill incorporate play over water and an island tee. The game, the view and beautifully manicured greens are said to inspire the senses while relaxing the mind.

Faller couldn’t agree more. “Golf at Leatherstocking is an unbelievable experi- ence. And we do all we can to enhance it evenmore. Manymeeting planners like to treat participants to a lobster bake or steak roast on the patio of the Pro Shop overlooking the 5th tee. We frequently encourage engaging competitions at night, including driving contests or glow ball. These activities are great for team building. Another big event is held each July for the New York State Business Council shortly before the Hall of Fame Induction. They play golf, have dinner in the Hall of Plaques and delight to cele- brated guest speakers. Last year we brought in shortstop Ozzie Smith and in 2014, it was pitcher Goose Gossage.”

Another outing that included golf at Leatherstocking served as a reward for Tauck Tours’ best customers. In addition to golf, they got to play baseball on famed Doubleday Field with Hall of Fame pitch- er Phil Niekro. “When we do a corporate meeting or event,we give the nicest gifts,” adds Faller. “Forget the trophies.
