Blue Bell Country Club is a full-service facility with modern fitness amenities, a swimming pool, lighted tennis courts and one of only three Arnold Palmer signature golf courses in the greater Philadelphia area. The 18-hole course PGA professional staff is available for golf lessons, while a full-length driving range and state-of-the-art short game practice facility attracts those who wish to sharpen their game. General manager Kristofer Fair invites business and fund raising groups to come see all that Blue Bell Country Club has to offer for meetings and events.

What’s more,Atlantic City Country Club is one of the nation’s most enduring golf spots. Known as the birthplace of the birdie, its earliest traditions continue to be attractions.

In 1903, Philadelphia resident Abner Smith landed a tee shot on the fairway, not an unusual feat; but his next lob landed so close to the hole that an easy putt resulted in a score of one under par. Someone in the crowd shouted: “That was a bird of a shot!” In that era, the term bird was equivalent to 21st century cries of “awesome!” That compliment, which evolved to become “birdie,” is now part of the golf lexicon.

Director of marketing for Atlantic City Country Club, Liz Norton-Scanga, never tires of the club’s history. “I’m still fascinated every day. The Ottinger Group purchased Atlantic City Country Club in 2014.

It is truly a gem. The

course is nestled on the bayside of Atlantic City and its views are glorious. Plus, it is reminiscent of Scotland or Ireland. And, of course, there are all the vintage touches.”

“We have videos set up in kiosks throughout the club,” says Norton- Scanga.“It’s a living history tour. Guests walk into our locker roomand step back in time. We even have the switchboard from the original hotel.”

She further notes that hundreds of events are held at Atlantic City Country Club each year. These include corporate

outings, fundraisers and conventions. “We have hosted six USGAmajor tourna- ments and also many charitable games. We raise a lot of money for local non- profit organizations. In addition, meet- ings and golf are a great pair. We offer space in the John J. McDermott Room, the James Sonny Fraser Room, the Leo Fraser Library, the Grand Ballroom and other areas. Our new bridal suite is equipped with every possible amenity. We are thrilled to be one of the most revered golf clubs in the country.”

Another golf setting selected by count- less organizations is Blue Bell Country Club. The 18-hole course, which was designed by Arnold Palmer, features 7,203 yards of golf from its longest tees for a par of 72. TheArnold Palmer Design Company is regarded as one of the pre- mier organizations of its kind in the golf course architectural industry.

“When there’s a golf outing of any kind, we provide many different formats,” exclaims Kristofer J. Fair, Blue Bell Country Club’s general manager. “No matter what level the golfer is, everyone has a great time. Fundraising opportuni- ties are phenomenal, as well. We can accommodate silent auctions, raffles, 50/50s andmore. A big hit is our golf ball drop. Everyone gets a number that cor- responds with a golf ball. A helicopter soars overhead and drops a barrage of balls. The ball that lands in the hole, or the closest one to it,wins. This is highly interactive fun.”
