wo leading figures in the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) in Birmingham have received
as a member of the enterprise and communities board of Birmingham City Council. He has been involved in shaping
regeneration strategies in the area along with organising local events as well as playing a strong role in assisting the speedy delivery of the local health centre. Since 2007, he has forged links between
his community and the West Midlands Police in an area which has had a history of serious racial tension and has acted as an adviser to Operation Gamble, a strike against counter-terrorism. Paul Faulkner, chief executive of the
GBCC, said: “These are richly-deserved awards for men who have found time to look after the interests of others while being extremely busy as heads of successful businesses. “Nasir is passionate about the black minority ethnic community and to see it
succeed and excel in every sector. He has carried out an enormous amount of work to ensure that they take advantage of the many opportunities that might come their way locally and nationally. “Aftab has been foremost in forging links for
the Asian community in Birmingham especially in areas threatened by racial tension.”

to food awareness A Midland social enterprise which is helping promote healthy eating among young local schoolchildren is to spread its message nationwide in 2016. Leicester-based Earth Buds, founded by Bina
Sitaram, is to roll out its ‘Cook and Create’ programme to teach children about the health benefits of different foods, the origins of food and how to read labels effectively. The programme is being made available online
for schools across the country, which are being encouraged to forge links with local businesses . Earth Buds founder Bina Sitaram said: “2016 is
an incredibly exciting year for Earth Buds, as Cook and Create rolls out nationwide, benefitting thousands of children.” Cook and Create aims to help children tackle

First impressions are lasting impressions – and that’s certainly the case at long established sweet and savoury shop Doaba Catering. The firm has been trading for 40 years from its Soho Road premises but in recent years, it has faced
added competition in the surrounding area. The son of owner Kulvinder Singh, Rakesh Korotana’s solution was to refurbish the front of the shop, and this would include a new counter and layout. However, the refurbishment would have cost around £15,000-20,000, a lot more than initially expected.. However, Rakesh persisted with his plan, finally convincing Kulvinder to take the plunge - and a new
counter was specially manufactured by Jordao Cooling Systems in Portugal and delivered and installed in time for Diwali by Phoenix Retail Solutions of High Wycombe.

about business and encourage the development of entrepreneurial skills. It includes a Dragons Den style pitch, where children pitch their food enterprise ideas. The programme includes extensive online
teaching resources, a kit containing everything needed for delivery, with video tutorials to be added by the second quarter of 2016.
