would have been possible without an incredible support team behind me. I now want to give something back by using my story to inspire others.”

START-UPS OF THE FUTURE

After Birmingham was recently named the “UK Start-Up Capital”, an entrepreneurs conference event will be taking place on 25 February, at South & City College, Digbeth, offering the opportunity to come together to meet like-minded individuals, share tips and advice in what will be a fast-paced, practical and informative event. The event has been designed to appeal to delegates looking to start up as an entrepreneur as

well as those that are more experienced and looking to develop and grow their business. Entrepreneur Simon Hague will launch the conference by speaking on the topic of ‘What is it

like to be an entrepreneur?’ Access to finance can often be a challenge for today’s entrepreneur, with such common

questions being asked as where to go? What is available? What is the process? The second speaker, Alison Bradley (managing director of Central Finance), will answer these and many more questions based on her vast knowledge and experience of working with a number of entrepreneurs. Innovation is also a key factor in business success and will be highlighted in a presentation by entrepreneur Mark Hales. Throughout the event, there will be an opportunity for some delegates to inform the audience

about their own business ventures and delegates will also work in groups for part of the event, exploring possible solutions to some of the challenges that they face, in an interactive session that will be facilitated by award-winning entrepreneur and advisor Joel Blake. Lunch and refreshments will be provided at the start of the event. Chamber director of events Henrik Court said: “I am really excited about this event. It is the first

time we have held a conference like this. We have assembled a very well respected line-up of speakers and I am confident the event will prove very worthwhile to those attending.”

FOR SCHOOLS Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce is offering local schools (primarily for years 10 and 11 pupils) the opportunity to hold a careers fair event at their school. The costs involved will be covered entirely by the Skills Funding Agency. The events have to be held by the end of

June 2016, and are subject to a few criteria, such as a minimum of 250 pupils attending. The events will provide pupils with the opportunities to speak to employers, learn about apprenticeships and seek guidance to increase their chances of having success in the jobs market. Chamber director of events, Henrik Court

said: “This is a great opportunity for schools to engage with local businesses and for pupils to hear at first-hand about what employers look for when recruiting.”

Any interested school should email h.court@birmingham-chamber.com for more information.
