Success story spans decade A

Longbridge-based marketing consultancy is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Aardvark Marketing Consultants, which has offices at

Devon Way, Longbridge Technology Park, was founded in 2005 by Chris Hutchinson and since then has gone from strength to strength. During the past decade, the firm has gone from

being a one-man band start-up to a limited company with two directors, two project managers and admin support. Chris originally set the firm up with the intention

of helping small to medium (SME) sized businesses compete with the ‘big boys’ in terms of marketing.

‘I wanted to bring SMEs the power of “big brand” marketing’

He said: “Most SME owners and managers don’t have access to the specialist marketing experience that comes from working in blue chip companies selling famous brands both here in the UK and worldwide. “I wanted to bring SMEs the power of “big brand”

marketing. For too long I had seen SMEs fobbed off with fluffy, unaccountable, marketing practises. “It’s too easy to hide behind a mirage of

artistically crafted sentences that appear to be aimed at selling your product. At Aardvark we believe in great creativity but we understand that it only delivers sales growth when it is accompanied by robust strategic direction and vision.” Among the projects that Aardvark has been

working recently on is Worcestershire County Council’s ‘Changing Futures Fund’.

Seeking heroes of small business

During the past three years, Aardvark director Gill

Hutchinson has supported 42 charities not-for-profit organisations all over the county via the fund, helping them to set better strategic goals and plan their marketing. She said: “The Changing Futures Fund has allowed

the voluntary and community sector to adapt to and thrive in a world where grant funding is increasingly difficult to secure. It’s been great to see the successes of so many of these organisations.”

For the second year in a row, Intuit QuickBooks is on the hunt for the best success stories among small business in the West Midlands. The firm’s ‘Small Business Big

Success’ competition aims to uncover local business heroes who are working hard to achieve success in whatever form matters to them. Mike Williams, who is European

director of finance at the firm, said: “We’re looking to celebrate the everyday triumphs in starting, running and growing a business and support those looking to get to the next level.” Businesses have until 29

February to enter. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges and announced at a gala dinner at Villa Park on 22 March. As well as £10,000 in prize

money, winners will receive a full page article in the Birmingham Post; LED advertising and hospitality at the Aston Villa v Southampton fixture, an exhibition opportunity at a future Birmingham Chamber of Commerce event, a free QuickBooks Online subscription for 12 months.
