Not only can you enjoy the seed sowing, you can also see the vegetable growing process from start to fi nish.


his method provides a little twist on the conventional way of growing carrots, combining a fun seed sowing session


Compost. Use good quality, moist compost. Organic if you can.


Plant pots: Various sizes. The bigger the pot, the more carrots you can grow. The pots can be round or square. You could even re-use yoghurt pots.


Carrot seeds: The variety you purchase is crucial.


You’ll need short-rooted varieties that work well in containers: Paris Atlas 5, Parmex, Rondo, Paris Market or Parceba.


Labels: You’ll need these to label the pots with the variety, sowing date and (most importantly) who sowed the seeds! You could buy labels or make them by cutting strips from a plastic milk bottle.
