New Year’s Charity Swim in Javea

On New Year’s Day, 32 valiant souls braved the icy Mediterranean for their first dip of the year. The

sponsored swim was organised by Nigel and Karen Rushden of the Lancashire Bruja bar/restaurant in Javea.

A grand total of 2444€ was raised by the swimmers which was donated to the charity Make A Smile for the Emaús children’s food runs and the Preventorio in Gandia.

Concert nets over 1350 Euros for Teulada Moraira Lions

On Saturday 24th January Teulada Moraira Lions Club kicked off their series of fund- raising events for 2015 with a concert by

The Blues Brothers Experience at Espai La Senieta, Moraira. And what a fantastic performance it was with so much talent, fun and sheer energy that the audience were literally dancing in the aisles.

With every seat filled, this sell out concert and the generously supported raffle, held in the foyer beforehand, contributed over 1350 Euros to the funds required to enable TM Lions to continue their work within the local community whilst a request for donations of good-quality clothing, bric a brac etc*, which Lions President, Colin Lilley (pictured right), made from the stage, to enable the Club to replenish and enhance the stock of The Lions Den fund-raising shop brought a tremendous response with a flood of items being handed in to The Den at the beginning of the following week.

For details of all future TM Lions fund-raising events, join their mailing list by sending your contact details to: mailinglist.tmlions@gmail.com, or look at their events page on Facebook, or visit their website www.teuladamorairalions.org.

*If you have any similar good quality items which you would be willing to donate to TM Lions then The Lions Den (next door to Barclays Bank in Moraira) would be delighted to hear from you.

Hooray! We no longer have to slice all those carrots by hand!

Last year Calpe Christian Fellowship Church launched an appeal to raise

money to buy a vegetable processing machine for the Christian charity Adopt-a-Child’s feeding centre at Pogradec in Albania. Each week the centre prepares and provides nutritional meals for over 1,000 children living in some of the poorest mountain villages of north-eastern Albania close to the border with Macedonia.

For most of the children these are the only nutritional meals they receive each week. With no benefits system or hand-out from the government, families have to eke out a living from the land or by working for a pittance in extremely dangerous conditions in the chromium mines.

Until now the dedicated kitchen staff had been preparing all of the vegetables by hand, a long and arduous task and when Miriam Anning from Calpe Christian Fellowship visited them last year and saw the mountain of food they had to process she was determined to do something about it.

On her return the church launched an appeal and in excess of 1,000 Euros was raised and sent to the charity. The machine has now been purchased and installed, and a delighted and thankful kitchen staff are now enjoying the benefits it brings. Paul Cocking, Adopt-a-Child’s International Development Coordinator writes: “A big thank you to all in Spain who pulled out all the stops in such a magnificent way to bless the kitchen team and the children in Albania”.

The smiles on the faces of the kitchen staff says it all so a big thank you also from Calpe Christian Fellowship Church to everyone who contributed. Further detail of our support for the work of Adopt-a-Child can be seen on our website: www.calpechristianfellowship.org.
