Travelling abroad soon? Whether you’re going to the beach
Readdressing the balance
How often do you fi nd yourself standing in front of an empty fridge at the end of a long working day, wondering how you are going to make a meal from a dry piece of cheese and some wilted lettuce? Does your to-do list just keep growing? Do you crave ‘me-time’ but never seem to get a moment to your self?
If this sounds like you then it is time to readdress the balance!
Every day you have
your own priorities and on top of these you fi nd yourself juggling the demands and needs of others. Of course the trap is that the more you do for others, the more they want you to do! It is important to give yourself to others, but women in particular seem to do this at the sacrifi ce of their own well being.
The trick is to turn this on its head. To start putting yourself at the centre of your world. This means thinking you and your needs fi rst. How do you do this?
The fi rst step is to remember that their priority isn’t necessarily your priority. When someone asks you for something, instead of immediately saying yes to every request, buy yourself some time. Saying “let me get back to you” or “I’ll give you an answer tomorrow” are simple ways to do this.
If like me you fi nd saying no diffi cult then this is an important skill to develop. Try it out this week, simply say no without any reasons or excuses and see what happens. Who knows you might have time to make that trip to the supermarket and stock up your fridge!
