Newton Primary 7 Residential Trip to Dalguise
On 17th September Primary 7 pupils from all of the Dunblane Learning Community schools went on their residential trip to an activity centre in Dalguise.
In total 127 pupils spent three days and
two nights at the centre. Dalguise is a really fun outdoor activity centre for school trips and big groups. It is close to Dunkeld which is just north of Perth.
Whilst at Dalguise, we participated in 8 activities over the three days we stayed at the centre (Giant Swing, Raft Buildling, Archery, Zipwire, Challenge Course, Vertical Challenge, Trapeze and Sensory Trail). Two of the more popular activities were the Vertical Challenge and the Giant Swing! The Vertical Challenge is a vertical obstacle course heading up into the sky.
It consisted of tyres, ropes, nets and ladders that you had negotiate
your way to the top. The aim was to get to the top in 2-4 minutes or less. When you reached the top the rope tightened and you were lowered down to the ground – it felt like you were flying! The Giant Swing is basically a really really big swing. Your classmates pull you up to the top, or a little bit lower if you didn’t want to go as high, you then pull a rope which sends you flying through the air. It was pretty terrifying yet thrilling at the same time!
On the first night we had a campfire which was run by our instructors. We sang lots of songs until about 9:15pm then headed back to our dorms. Newton pupils stayed in Craigvinean Lodge and Ordie Lodge. We had great fun in our dorms and enjoyed being mixed across the two classes from our school.
It was good getting to know people who we don’t normally
spend a lot of time with. We had dorm inspections every night where our teachers came round to inspect how and clean and tidy our dorms were as well as rating us on our entertainment factor. It was great fun!
Before we knew it Friday had arrived and we were boarding the bus to go home. Luckily, the bus journey back passed quite quickly as everyone was excited to see their parents and siblings. Everyone was a bit tired however we thoroughly enjoyed Dalguise. It was an amazing experience!
For the first year all three of the Dunblane schools went on the residential trip together. We were mixed for our activity groups and everyone thought it was the best experience to get to know all the new people we will be going to high school with. We really enjoyed spending time with Mr McMaster from Dunblane High and Andy McBroom from the Dunblane Centre. We are now looking forward to an exciting year ahead continuing to get to know all the pupils from Dunblane Primary School and St Mary’s Episcopal.
